West Beach has a proud tradition of Surf Life Saving Clubs and championships, and the modern Surf Club building also boasts a beachfront restaurant and café.
With an aquatic water feature, picnic shelters, open grassed space, BBQs, exercise equipment and a children’s playground, this is a popular place for the people of both Burnie and north-west Tasmania. On New Year's Eve, the foreshore area comes alive as families gather to ring in the new year with dazzling fireworks displays, music, food and a beach bonfire.
On Saturday mornings Burnie Park Run starts and finishes at the Burnie Waterfront formally known as Hilder Parade.
Beach volleyball is also played on the beach in front of the Surf Life Saving Club and the Burnie Volleyball Association holds competitive games during the summer months.
A beach wheelchair is available for use at Burnie's West Beach, find out more.
