Linda Abblitt

printmaker

I’m predominately inspired by people. While working overseas I found my art focus changing from landscapes to people. I felt great empathy toward those in need, and it changed my whole outlook.

Linda has always been an artist concentrating mainly on painting and photography. But after 13 years working overseas for an aid organisation, she returned to Tasmania a few years ago and studied printmaking.

She discovered in woodcuts a medium which allowed her to blend technique and emotive ideas to create a strong image.

Through woodcuts I’ve found a way of portraying a sense of the person, their emotions, environment and plight. Working in black and white I can convey the stark reality of the subject through my prints.
