Peg dollies have a quirky outlook on life because they know how special it is to have legs! Dollies are important to people for all sorts of reasons. Some find them warmly funny or comforting. They are like friends and are a part of my creative life.
Kareina Day made her first peg dolly in 2005 for her daughter after she left home at the tender age of 16. Each peg dolly is inspired by Kareina’s family and genuinely kind people.
Peg dollies are dressed using vintage and recycled materials.
My work is connected to my life and the relationships with my family, people and the North-West Coast. The entire island feels like one big home. It has the sea as its boundary and I feel like I belong here.
