Glass has always fascinated me, both for the visual and tactile qualities, and the mystery of how such a hard material can be manipulated into so many different shapes.
Carmen’s work is distinctive for its simple elegant forms and rich colours. She works from her Wilmot studio, surrounded by rolling hills and mountain views.
After 25 years working in textiles, Carmen discovered the challenges and joys of working in glass four years ago. She is driven by the technical and aesthetic challenges of her art and the sheer pleasure of opening her kiln.
In Tasmania the air is very clean, so colours are always intense and vibrant. Living a calm life in beautiful surroundings, it is easy to be inspired.
