Rita Power
textile artist
Mother Nature puts everything together, skies, flora, fauna and landscapes. Many of my colours can be found in North West Tasmania - in particular I love the ochres, reds, oranges and the beautiful, almost edible soil in this place is truly inspirational.
Rita’s love of textiles and her arts practice started with a bundle of recycled sari silk purchased on the internet and over the past five years has developed to include needle felt, free form knitting, spinning and silk painting.
Rita’s signature opulent colour combinations and fascinating textures can be found in her fashion accessories, baby shoes, and bags.
Rita is inspired by the boldness of nature.
When not at the Makers’ Workshop, Rita works from her Gunns Plains studio that she shares with her cat.
