Tasmania's North West

Follow the main streets of the City Centre to the Burnie foreshore, the City by the Sea.  West Beach is a block from the central business district and is connected by boardwalk to the Makers' Workshop and the penguin habitat on the western end of the beach.

West Beach has a proud tradition of Surf Life Saving Clubs and championships, and the modern Surf Club building also boasts a beachfront restaurant and café.

With an aquatic water feature, picnic shelters, open grassed space, BBQ’s and a children’s playgroup, people from North West Tasmania celebrate with their families, dazzling fireworks display and bonfires as they come together to herald in the new year.

South Beach on the eastern arrival into Burnie, once had the back drop of the pulp and paper mill, but today allows a glimpse into Australia’s 5th largest container port.  Take a walk along the Paper Memorial walk that celebrates  Burnie’s 75 year history of paper manufacturing.
